Studio Equipment Upgrade
May 15, 2011
For immediate release:
QTalk Arizona, the only GLBT podcast network in the state, is taking a giant leap forward in technology. With future plans calling for more interactivity with listeners and many new shows launching in the summer of 2011, it is time to retire our old recording equipment.
QTalk Arizona, started by Joe Dugandzic in June 2011, has been operating on antiquated audio equipment since its inception. In fact, Joe operated his former personal podcast on the same equipment. Some of this equipment dates back to when he used to produce podcasts on cassette tape back in the 1990s! A guest on QTalk Arizona graciously offered to purchase the old equipment and Joe is quite happy that it is going to a good home.
And now, to detail the new setup! The ‘studio’, which has been located in Joe Dugandzic’s home, has always been able to accommodate four people on any particular show. But there has been no easy way for in-studio guests to interact with guests coming in on the phone or thru a Skype call. In addition, a tremendous amount of time has been put into adding the music and effects elements into our shows and our new setup will allow us to do all of these functions in a ‘live’ manner similar to broadcast radio. We are upgrading to four studio-quality MXL 990 microphones and a Behringer 8-channel mixer. We are able to pull the digital audio output of the mixer directly into our recording program for the utmost in quality. And, the multiple inputs allow us to interact with Skype callers and also insert voice-overs and our theme music into each show as we record the show. It will be utter podcasting bliss! As Joe Dugandzic is the sole technical producer of all shows on QTalk Arizona, he is absolutely looking forward to it. He said recently, “I have had this idea for some time, but now with our anniversary coming up and the additional shows and media exposure, it’s time to next things to the next level.”
Look for us to use more capabilities of this flexible setup as time moves forward. All music and Skype calls are brought into our audio mixer through an iPad 2, an iPhone 4 and a specialized in/out audio adapter for the iPhone.
